About the Family Friendly Business Awards
Each year, for the past 20 years, the Family Friendly Business Awards program has acknowledged local businesses that put family first. The “Family Friendly Business “designation recognizes businesses, according to established criteria, that have workplace policies and programs which assist employees in raising their children. Family friendly practices, such as health benefits and maternity leave, help to attract and retain top talent. Even small businesses can offer family supportive programs like flex time and earn the loyalty of their employees. This awards ceremony is hosted by CCCR to recognize local businesses, small and large, that make the wise business decision to invest in these practices. All businesses that apply are eligible for a Family Friendly Business Award designation. The designation is awarded based on a point system that calculates all the various efforts of an organization to support employees with families.
Employer of the Year Award
During the Awards Ceremony, we will be presenting an Employer of the Year award to four companies that show the strongest commitment to
family friendly and innovative practices. An Employer of The Year will be awarded in the following categories: small business, medium business, large business
and nonprofit organization. A runner-up in each category will also be honored. A panel of judges select these winners.
The Awards Luncheon:
Celebrate the local businesses that put family first. The Family Friendly Business Awards will be presented on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Naples. There will be networking from 11:00 a.m. – noon. Cost is $45 per person. The luncheon includes a keynote address, plated lunch, raffle, the presentation of certificates designating Family Friendly Businesses and the Employer of the Year Awards.

Event sponsorships are available and start at $200. At minimum, all event sponsorships include a vendor table, tickets, and the opportunity to include promotional items in the event swag bags. Michael V. Martin, Ph.D., President of Florida Gulf Coast University will deliver the kynote address, “The importance of being family friendly and how high-quality early education and childcare affect and support the workplace“. President Martin came to FGCU from the Colorado State University System, where he served most recently as Chancellor Emeritus and Senior Fellow following three years as Chancellor. Prior to this, he was Chancellor of Louisiana State University; President of New Mexico State University; Vice President for Agriculture and Natural Resources at University of Florida; Vice President for Agricultural Policy at University of Minnesota; and served 15 years on the faculty, including a term as Faculty Senate president, at Oregon State University.
A native of Crosby, Minnesota, Dr. Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and a master’s degree in economics at Mankato State College (now Minnesota State University). He received his Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota in 1977. His areas of specialization are prices, international trade, public policy, transportation, and business logistics. His membership on local, state and national boards and organizations spans decades of service, and currently includes the Farm Foundation Board of Trustees, and the International Agricultural Trade Research Consortium.
