Collier Child Care Resources is currently seeking volunteers from the public with early childhood knowledge to evaluate the 2019 Apple Blossom Award “Teacher of the Year” nominees. The Apple Blossom Award evaluators will conduct three or four classroom visits to assess nominees who educate and care for children ages birth to five years. Nominee evaluators must have some knowledge of early childhood education, in either the classroom or as an administrator of an Early Childhood Education Program. Former preschool teachers, administrators, first grade teachers, speech therapists, or counselors who have worked with children birth to six-years-old are encouraged to volunteer.
Judges will make classroom visits between February and early March. Administrators, colleagues, and parents nominate early educators for an Apple Blossom Awards. From this pool of nominees, outstanding candidates are selected for site visits. Nominee evaluators use a scoring form with criteria such as teacher sensitivity, language support, positive climate, and behavior guidance. Those interested in being a nominee evaluator for the 2019 Apple Blossom Awards can contact JoAnn Lawrence, JoannL@collierchildcare.org, (239) 643-3908, or visit www. collierchildcare.org.
