Each year, at the Family Friendly Business Award ceremony, the Employer of the Year Award is given to two deserving companies in the following categories: small-medium business (1-49 employees), and large business (50+ employees). The winners are selected by a panel of judges on who they believe shows the strongest commitment to family friendly business practices. Collier Child Care Resources Inc. is proud to announce this year’s Small-Medium Business Employer of the Year Winner: PBS Contractors
PBS Contractors was established in Naples, Florida, in 1986. PBS Contractors’ mission is to create more than just quality construction projects – but to build “Better Lives for our team, for our clients, and for our community.” PBS Contractors provides a superb work/life balance and flexible work time including, employee assistance programs, resource services, volunteer opportunities, phase-back and reduced flexible time, job sharing, work at home, and sick and personal leave time.
Each year, PBS conducts an iOpener Institute certified survey for happiness at work, and employees are given the chance to provide suggestions to improve the company. PBS emphasizes community outreach within its culture, one example being when team members volunteered for the annual Farm City BBQ to benefit youth charities in Collier County. This message of outreach extends to CEO Russell Budd, who is a board member for the David Lawrence Center as well as NAMI Collier County. Budd believes that “In supporting a family friendly workplace and a strong work culture, appropriate resources will be implemented if a team member is in need.” In 2014, when Assistant Project Manager Christina Hatch’s husband became sick with liver disease, PBS provided her with many ways to still work while taking care of her family. She was allowed to work at home, make up time when she could, and was provided both financial and emotional support. A barbecue fundraiser was also organized by staff to raise money for her family. PBS reassured her that she would be able to take care of her husband and not be concerned with her position, and that she could return when she was able.
PBS Contractors provides childcare support including; sick childcare program, on-site childcare program, on-site infant care, lactation program, emergency childcare, and business partnerships with childcare centers. PBS remains involved in several youth organizations including Grace Place for Children and Families, Boundless Kids, March for Babies and Bikers for Babies.
Apart from the remarkable services that PBS Contractors provides for their employees, additional benefits and services are provided including dog Fridays, plant slant, potlucks, a no-tobacco policy, and a designated week when employees may dress to a specific theme each day.
