Teenage Parent Program (TAPP)
TEENAGE PARENT PROGRAM (TAPP)
OVERVIEW
The School District of Collier County’s Teenage Parent Programs are customized, individualized educational programs for pregnant teenagers and teenage parents. These programs are designed to aid the pregnant teenager or teenage parent in earning a high school diploma. The academic status of each student is evaluated upon entry and an individualized educational program is prescribed. Students may complete course work leading to a high school diploma while enrolled in the program or may re-enter the regular school program at any time. Child care and transportation are provided for the teenage parent and pregnant teenagers.
GOALS
1. Increase the likelihood of pregnant teenagers and teenage parents earning a high school diploma.
2. Increase the student’s level of knowledge and skill in health care, parenting skills and child growth and development.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the school year:
1. 60% of the students will remain in school or graduate.
2. 100% of the students will continue with their academic program while enrolled in the Teenage Parent Program.
3. 80% of the students will demonstrate knowledge of effective parenting skills as evidenced by a pre and post test.
4. 60% of the students will not have a repeat pregnancy during the current school year.
5. 70% of the students who enter the program during the first or second trimester of pregnancy will deliver babies that have a birth weight of 5.5 pounds or greater.
