The Sample Foundation recently awarded Collier Child Care Resources (CCCR) a $10,000 grant for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) . STEAM is similar to Science, Technology, Mathematics (STEM) with the addition of art to tie in our Reggio Emilia teaching philosophy. Our centers provide high-quality early education and childcare for children, from birth to five-years-old.
The grant purchased STEAM classroom supplies for the centers. The students now have a STEM Exploration Table, which enables them to perform experiments and investigative activities with magnets, heat and magnification. They also have a new Light Table that has built-in lights on the tabletop, so children can learn about color mixing, light and shadows. The new classroom supplies also include a Sensory Dome, this allows students to explore all five senses with over 10 exotic plants. The children will also get to explore and learn with a GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope, this provides visual detail and information about animals, plants and everyday household items. Other new additions include, Sensory Sound Eggs, Mathematics Skills Kit and Jamtown Around The World Pack. These items help children with recognizing their senses, math skills and learning about multicultural music.
Niccole Howard, CCCR’s Executive Director/CEO said, “We are very grateful to the Sample Foundation for this grant. These new tools in our classrooms will dramatically enhance our students’ experiences by making the learning process fun and memorable.”
STEM is an important field for students to learn at a young age. Studies show that 93% of people in STEM occupations earn wages above the national average.
